The fabric for these kitchen curtains in a listed country house was carefully chosen to complement the recently painted ochre walls.  It can sometimes be difficult to chose fabric to match paint & I would usually suggest chosing your fabric first to make decorating easier.   The importance of looking at your fabric & furnishings in situ was highlighted by how different this fabric looks under different light conditions.  In situ it looks perfect however in the bright lighting of my workroom it looks very different & a much brighter gold…806

About Me

Karen 50I love the idea that…“Your home should tell the story of who you are & be a collection of what you love” (Nate Berkus)

I grew up surrounded by people with an appreciation of historic decorative detail & have always had a passion for textiles & colour which started with A’ level Textile Design & progressed through City & Guilds Interior Design.  I love the detail in design.

I am professionally trained in traditional hand sewing techniques for making curtains, blinds & lampshades. I keep up to date with all the latest methods by exchanging ideas with other soft furnishers at networking events & attending design shows.

From my workroom in the ancient market town of Great Dunmow, North Essex I make traditional, timeless & contemporary made to measure home furnishings.  I aim to provide an affordable, tailor made, friendly design service using either your own fabrics or you may prefer to choose from the lovely selection of fabrics that I have to offer.  I also have a range of tracks, poles & beautiful trimmings to complete your special scheme.

Don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss your next project.

Silk sari fabric project

IMG_0861

I mentioned in an earlier post (Vintage textiles) that I had plans for an old silk sari….here is an update.   I am using this gorgeous sari fabric to cover a coolie shaped lampshade using traditional techniques for silk shades.   I have lined the inside using ivory silk & the sari fabric is tightly pleated around the frame which is a time consuming process & uses so many pins!   Once the pleated silk is pinned into place I will sew it in place to the frame & lining…Silk sari fabric lampshade

Museum collection curtain poles

IMG_0817

I am delighted to be able to offer the Museum range of handcrafted curtain poles which come in a beautiful variety of colours & finishes. These poles are suitable for classic or contemporary settings due to the choice of pole sizes (35mm, 45mm, 55mm), selection of elegant finials  & a choice of wood or metal brackets.   The paint effects used on this range of poles are stunning; offering a choice of flat heritage colours or subtle metallic lustre by using Dutch metal leaf or Aluminum leaf gilding which is then waxed to give a hard wearing protective finish.  Please do get in touch with me if you would like to see this or any of the other wood or metal curtain pole ranges that I offer.
