A straight upholstered pelmet was suggested instead of the shaped ones that were installed elsewhere in the same room due to the size of the pelmet over a narrow window. As you can see there was limited space & the pelmet butts up to the wall on one side but still looks smart. continue scrolling down for more blinds or pelmets…

Shaped pelmets
This lovely room has a combination of two toning fabrics with large & small windows being treated to a different style dressing. These large garden patio doors have a shaped pelmet over cartridge headed curtains in a smart contemporary large print fabric. The result is stunning; traditional yet contemporary due to the simple shaping of the pelmet combined with this fabric. Elsewhere in the room a window is given a different treatment of a straight pelmet with roman blind in a striped fabric with the same colourway (see roman blinds).
New Year New Colour!
These lovely fabrics are available in several colourways, but take a look at them in Emerald which is the Pantone Colour of the Year (Pantone 17-5641 ) I recently used two of these beautiful fabrics in a scheme for a sitting room where different window treatments were needed for different sized windows; curtains with shaped pelmets & roman blinds with straight pelmets. (You can see pictures of them in ‘Shaped pelmets’ & ‘Straight pelmets’ here on this website). Contact me by phone or email if you would like to see the fabrics ‘in the flesh’; they have a lovely texture & soft sheen.
If you thinking about making some colour changes at home, you may take inspiration from this…

Radiant jewel-toned Emerald promotes balance & harmony
Emerald for Interiors
Enhance your sense of well-being at home by rejuvenating the interior with Emerald accents, accessories & paint. This jewel-like hue will create a luxurious feel in an entryway, powder room, dining room or study, and bring life to a living room as an accent wall.
Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity – no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.
“Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.
Do let me know if I can help you refresh your home in 2013 ; perhaps new cushions, tiebacks, lampshades…
Happy New Year to you all!

Vintage textiles
Reading November’s newsletter from; http://www.thehousedirectory.com/ got me thinking about a lovely piece of sari fabric that I have had for a while, I’ll let you know what I do with it….in the meantime take a look at this beautiful curtain which features an embroidered shawl. A wonderful way to re-use a much loved textile. For more ecologically friendly inspiration I am going to be reading ‘Reclaiming Style‘ by the founders of Retrouvius the renowned architectural salvage & design business (Ryland, Peter & Small £19.99) You never know where your inspiration may come from…

Why buy bespoke? There are so many reasons….from quality workmanship to made to measure service. Unlike ready made curtains, bespoke curtains & blinds are tailor made just for you & your home.

History of curtains
I read an interesting article; http://www.designsponge.com/2011/03/past-present-history-of-curtains.html …the history of curtains starting before the introduction of glass (over 500 years ago) & illustrated with numerous lovely photographs.
